Preparation for the upcoming VALO Adelaide 500 has ramped up, with resurfacing work now underway.

The Adelaide 500 will make its triumphant return as the season finale in December.

This year’s event will run on December 1-4.

Part of the state government’s commitment to the event was track resurfacing.

Pit straight resurfacing works have commenced at Victoria Park.

A suite of resurfacing works, kerb replacements and circuit upgrades will help relaunch the event.

It will be the biggest resurfacing project in the circuit’s decorated history.

More than 70 per cent of the circuit will be completely resurfaced.

The circuit will be resurfaced from the braking zone at Turn 9 through to the entry of Turn 7.

Pit lane and paddock areas will also be resurfaced

The pit lane and paddock area will also be updated.

The hardstand behind the garage area will be replaced and extended.

The June State Budget included $18 million in 2022-23 to run this year’s event.

An additional $3 million was set aside to purchase infrastructure.

Construction of race grandstands will commence in the coming weeks.

Other major works, including pavement removal, are expected to be completed in October.

"These works signify another exciting milestone in this event’s homecoming,” Premier Peter Malinauskas said.

"I am looking forward to the VALO Adelaide 500 to return to our city streets, along with hundreds of jobs, thousands of visitors and millions of dollars’ worth of economic activity."

South Australian Motor Sport Chief Executive Mark Warren added: "We have been working hard behind the scenes to deliver a spectacular event worthy of the wait, after a two-year hiatus.

"This road resurfacing is long-overdue and we know this year’s racers will be looking forward to their wheels hitting the fresh asphalt in December.”

Tickets for the event are on sale now.
