The next steps for Gen3 project after historic reveal
Supercars Head of Motorsport Adrian Burgess says the focus of the Gen3 project will now shift to durability testing.
The Gen3 General Motors Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and Ford Mustang GT prototypes were officially unveiled at the Repco Bathurst 1000 on Friday.
The public reveal marked the culmination of 12 months of painstaking efforts by Supercars and the two homologation teams to bring the cars to life.

The project had gained momentum in recent months, from successful testing of Gen3-spec engines to strong results in aerodynamic testing.
Fans were granted access to view the Gen3 cars display within the Supercars paddock on Friday.
Friday also saw Shane van Gisbergen and Anton De Pasquale complete the first public laps in the Gen3 prototypes around Mount Panorama.
“This is only the first step, it's been a long 18 months to get here,” Burgess said.
“We have a lot of work in front of us, but we know what we've got to do.
“Obviously, we've got to validate the car and make sure it's reliable.
“We've got to make sure we hit all the targets we have set ourselves in terms of its performance, longevity, engine, life, tyre wear, all these sorts of things.
“Obviously the big ‘P word’ parity, we've got to obviously ensure we've got parity in every area that we measure.
“We are all confident and we're all looking forward to the task ahead, and I'm looking forward to showing the fans as well.”
The Gen3 Camaro and Mustang will make their racing debut in the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship.
Burgess explained how testing will progress across the next 12 months.
“Firstly, everyone will leave [Bathurst] and we will go and have a break,” Burgess said.
“Then we will kick off more testing in January; we've got four days booked towards the end of January at Queensland Raceway.
“Then we will take it further around the country, and visit more tracks, high speed and low speed, that will happen throughout 2022.”
The Gen3 cars are on display in the Supercars Paddock at Mount Panorama.
On-track exhibitions of the Gen3 cars will be carried out at Repco Supercars Championship events in 2022.
