No change to Toyota after review, Chevrolet analysis ongoing
62% of Camaros on the grid have rookie driver, compared to 36% of Mustangs
Now Ford driver Will Brown against potential changes to Camaro
Ford driver Will Brown is against potential changes to the Chevrolet Camaro following the ITM Taupō Super 440.
The new Supra hit the trigger under the new parity review system. The system is based off a rolling six-race calculation using lap time data from multiple cars of each brand.
The new system formally requires Supercars to undertake an investigation, but doesn’t necessarily mean changes will be made.
Supercars is underpinned by technical parity, but the driver numbers are stacked in Ford’s favour — 62% of the Camaros on the grid have a rookie driver, compared to only 36% of the Mustangs.
Triple Eight driver Brown, who swapped a Camaro for a Mustang in 2026, suggested current results are indicative of drivers and teams, not cars.
“This is going to be controversial, but you can’t just give GM a leg-up because the teams or the drivers aren’t doing as good of a job right now,” Brown said on his Lucky Dogs Podcast.
“Unfortunately, Erebus haven’t had the best run, MSR haven’t. I’d say Team 18 have probably stepped up more than I thought this year, they’ve done a pretty good job, but then also PremiAir have two rookies as well.
“You’ve got two of the teams have got rookies pretty much in both cars, then MSR has a rookie and Jack [Le Brocq].
“I don’t know how you work that out on track performance.”
Team 18 driver Anton De Pasquale was wary of wading into the debate before New Zealand, and after missing the podium in Taupō, said top 10s are "not exactly what we want." Ford has won seven of the first nine races between Triple Eight Race Engineering and Dick Johnson Racing, with single wins for General Motors (Team 18) and Toyota (Walkinshaw TWG Racing).
To this time last year, Ford had six wins to GM’s three — Tickford Racing had three wins, Grove Racing two, and Walkinshaw one. Triple Eight had two wins in Camaros, with a single for Matt Stone Racing.
Of GM's 54 wins in the Gen3 era, Triple Eight claimed 36 of them. Triple Eight was responsible for 16 of GM’s 17 wins in 2025, and 27 of 33 since the start of 2024.
Track action will commence in Christchurch on Friday. Tickets are on sale now.
