Bathurst winner Barry ‘Bo’ Seton has sadly passed away, aged 89.
Seton was father of Supercars Hall of Famer Glenn, and grandfather of young racer Aaron.
Affectionately known as ‘Bo’, Seton famously won the Great Race aboard a Ford Cortina alongside Midge Bosworth.
Seton made 22 starts in the Great Race, across 1963 to 1984. Alongside his overall 1965 victory, Seton claimed three class victories in 1976, 1977 and 1980, aboard Ford Capris he prepared himself.
Seton shared a Capri in the 1983 Great Race with son Glenn, in what was Glenn’s Bathurst debut. Glenn went on to become one of the greats, winning the 1993 and 1997 championships.
Barry helped Glenn set up a race team in the latter’s name. Glenn Seton Racing was formed in 1989, with Barry primarily building engines.
Father and son were joined at the hip, and few could forget Barry’s years as engine issues undid Glenn’s spirited charge in the 1995 Bathurst 1000.
The very same 1965 Cortina car was offered up to Glenn in 1995 as race organisers put up the choice of a $30,000 cash bonus or taking home his dad’s winning car, should he win the race.
Barry’s grandson Aaron also pursued racing, and debuted in the Bathurst 1000 in 2022. To launch the news, all three generations of Seton were photographed together.
The three Setons combine for 50 Bathurst starts — 22 for Barry, 26 for Glenn, and two for Aaron.
Supercars extends its condolences to the friends and family of the late Barry 'Bo' Seton.
