Jordyn Sinni tops final Super2 practice session in Darwin
Sinni and teammate Matt Chahda first and fourth in mighty underdog performance
Performance came hours after heavy Practice 1 crash for Sinni
Jordyn Sinni has completed an extraordinary turnaround by Matt Chahda Motorsport to set the fastest Friday practice time for the DUNLOP Super2 Series at the betr Darwin Triple Crown.
After his heavy impact in Practice 1, Sinni returned to the circuit in a repaired Holden Commodore, the MCM crew completing extensive front end repairs for the #81.
The ex-Walkinshaw Commodore sported several mismatched panels from last year's WAU Super2 operation, however that didn't slow down the 2025 Sydney round winner, who set the fastest time of the day at a 1:08.0867s.
As the 20 cars rolled out, rain was falling heavily enough for drivers to flick on their windscreen wipers, and times were two seconds slower than Practice 1 though the track remained dry.
Joint points leader Brad Vaughan looked strong early, getting back down towards times from earlier in the day into the 1:08s range, and was joined by Brad Jones Racing teammate Matt Hillyer.
The BJR Commodores were joined by Tickford's Nash Morris before too long, with Hillyer, Vaughan, and Morris all covered by just 0.0336s.
Practice 1 pacesetter Bayley Hall continued his good form to jump back to the top on a 1:08.3935s, putting almost four tenths on the field, which was marginally eaten into by Bailey Sweeny when he jumped to second.
The second half of the session saw the field begin to bolt on fresh tyres, Sinni going from the fence to first on a 1:08.2848s in his repaired Commodore, moving to a 1:08.0867s on a second flyer.
Matt Chahda leapt up to join his teammate Sinni in the top three, whilst Vaughan moved back up to fourth, before Ben Gomersall moved to within 0.0334s of top spot in his Tickford Mustang.
Two MCM Commodores in the top three became two Tickford Mustangs in the top three as the clock wound down in the last eight minutes, as Reuben Goodall bumped Chahda out of third.
However, as some threatened to improve, no one could topple Sinni, with the top three maintaining status quo to the finish.
Any final flyers were aborted when Zak Best ground to a halt at the exit of Turn 5 in the final minutes.
Chahda was an excellent fourth to round out a strong performance for his family team, ahead of Hall, Vaughan, Nash Morris, Campbell Logan, Lochie Dalton, and Cody Burcher.
Boost Mobile Qualifying for the opening DUNLOP Super2 Series race of 2026 commences at 10:05am local time/10:35am AEST.
