Reuben Goodall leads Ford dominance in final Perth Super2 practice
Tickford rebound after tough morning session
Brad Vaughan, Aaron Love only Holdens in top 10
Reuben Goodall has led a final DUNLOP Super2 Series practice session dominated by Fords in Perth.
After a wild morning practice session that ended up with a mixed bag of Fords and Holdens at the head of the field, all eight Mustangs in the field were represented in the top nine in Practice 2.
They were led by Tickford Autosport's squadron of four, who could only muster seventh, 12th, 15th, and 16th in Practice 1 on Friday morning.
Goodall led Campbell Logan by just 0.086s at the top of the timesheets, with Nash Morris and Ben Gomersall in fourth and fifth. Brad Jones Racing's Brad Vaughan broke up the Tickford quartet, finishing third.
After finishing third in his first Super2 session since 2023, Aaron Love had a shaky start to Practice 2 when he pinched an inside front at Turn 6 and ran through the sand, returning to the pits to clear his front radiator intake.
As he did in Practice 1, Lochie Dalton gapped the field early, putting three tenths on his rivals on his third lap of the session. Vaughan would close that gap to 0.15s, with Love recovering to go third, 0.17s back.
However, Dalton's initial marker was only a 56.2819s, some three tenths down on his Practice 1 benchmark, with Love then moving to the top on a 56.2740s.
Dalton's BRT teammate Bailey Sweeny then spent some time at in P1, moving the marker to a 56.0477s. Teams started to bolt better sets of tyres on in the final 20 minutes, which saw significant movement on the leaderboard.
Ayrton Hodson leapt up into second briefly for Matt Stone Racing, before Tickford's Mustangs went 1-2-3-4, Morris initially the fastest on a 55.6110s. Darwin round winner Logan then went quicker on a 55.5528s, before Goodall put just under a tenth on his teammate, with a 55.4668s.
Zak Best moved up into fifth to briefly make it an all-Ford top six, before Vaughan moved into third on a 55.6097s.
Ryan Tomsett was sixth for Anderson Motorsport, ahead of Blanchard Racing Team's Sweeny, Best, Dalton and Love rounding out the top 10 as the second-best Holden.
There were no red flag interruptions in Practice 2, though rookie Lincoln Taylor skated through the sand at Turn 1, and Dalton also had a brief off at Turn 7.
The DUNLOP Super2 Series next hit the track for Boost Mobile Qualifying at 11:30am local time/1:30pm AEST on Saturday, with the first Top Five Shootout of the season immediately following.
