Ryan Wood Supra undergoes Friday morning engine change in Melbourne
Kiwi finished seventh yesterday, will start third this afternoon
WTWGR completed similar engine change in Sydney last round
Walkinshaw TWG Racing have carried out a second engine change in as many rounds on the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Toyota of Ryan Wood.
After finishing seventh in the opening race of the weekend, won by Dick Johnson Racing's Brodie Kostecki, WTWGR have installed a new engine for Race 5 this afternoon, completing work in the early afternoon.
According to a team spokesperson, the change was planned during pre-season, with the team taking a cautious approach to reliability in the early stages of the all-new Toyota engine program.
There was no reported failure or reliability concerns for the #2 Toyota GR Supra through yesterday's running.
The move mirrors what occurred at the DUNLOP Sydney 500 for the Kiwi young gun, who also underwent a precautionary change following the second race of the weekend.
This afternoon marks a golden opportunity for Toyota to claim their first Supercars podium, with Wood claiming the Japanese manufacturer's best qualifying result to date in third, with teammate and reigning champion Chaz Mostert alongside him in fourth.
Wood currently sits sixth in the points standings after a quietly impressive start to the season, with Mostert sitting just a single point outside the Finals bubble in 11th.
Championship leader Matt Payne will start from pole for this afternoon's 19-lap Race 5, which commences at 5:30pm local time.
