James Golding tops Race 2 Qualifying
BRT get both cars into this afternoon's Shootout to continue stunning weekend
Will Brown 13th, Chaz Mostert 22nd
James Golding and Blanchard Racing Team have proved that Friday was no fluke, claiming provisional pole for Race 2 of the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship.
Golding reset his qualifying lap record set yesterday, whilst Aaron Cameron rolled the dice with one run to also qualify for the impending Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout.
There was drama before the session even began, with additional track works forcing support categories onto the short Druitt Circuit. Then, after a morning of searing heat, cars rolled out under overcast skies.
Payne was first into the 1:29s with a 1:29.7702s as weather closed in, before Reynolds went faster with a 1:29.5998s. Hill (1:29.4087s) and Ojeda (1:29.2864s) then went even quicker.
Rain quickly emerged at the back of the circuit, with Allen, Mostert, Gray, Bates, Golding and Le Brocq in the drop zone. Mostert was furious as he came into the lane, and returned with five minutes remaining to try and get into Q2.
Le Brocq marched on as the rain stopped, and vaulted to eighth. Wood and Mostert also powered into the top 10, but conditions rapidly improved. As the times tumbled, Mostert ended up 22nd, ahead of Cooper Murray and Le Brocq. Jackson Walls, Macauley Jones and Jobe Stewart were also eliminated.
Feeney was 21st and Golding 23rd as the final minute approached. Matt Payne jumped to first with a 1:28.6383s before Broc Feeney (1:28.3808s), David Reynolds (1:28.3885s), Anton De Pasquale (1:28.4316s) and James Golding (1:28.4852s) improved. Aaron Cameron went fastest of all with a 1:28.3304s, albeit by just 0.050s.
Time was of the essence in Q2 with rain continuing to linger, and it was Cam Waters who initially went fastest with a 1:28.2366s, before Cameron once again went fastest on a 1:28.1931s.
As the field rolled out for their last run with five minutes to go, Cameron decided to roll the dice, and hopped out of his car with just 0.04s in hand over Waters, and 0.34s back to teammate Golding, who was on the outside looking in.
Feeney was the first to beat Cameron's marker on a 1:28.1833, before Brodie Kostecki did a 1:28.0873, with De Pasquale then breaking the qualifying record on a 1:27.8882s.
But it was Golding who stole the show once again, reclaiming his qualifying record with a 1:27.8529s, proclaiming that his car was “even better than yesterday” over team radio.
The big name elimination from Q2 was Will Brown, who exceeded track limits on his final flyer, and will start 13th.
The Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout will be contested by Golding, De Pasquale, Kostecki, Waters, Zach Bates, Feeney, Thomas Randle, Cameron, Payne, and Wood.
The Shootout begins at 4:35pm local time, before the 200km Race 2 begins at 7:35pm tonight.
