The PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge is back in 2026
Challenge returns in its preliminary race format
2026 Challenge to commence in Sydney this weekend
The PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge is back in 2026, returning in its preliminary race format that ran across the 2025 Repco Sprint Cup.
The competition will continue as a team-based format, with each team defined by a pit boom and comprising two cars. The fastest pit stop from either car in each race will contribute to the team’s points tally.
This means that the boom that will be shared between Brad Jones Racing's third entry and Objective Racing will be classed as a single 'team' in the PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge.
The schedule of preliminary races expands by one to 13 for the 2026 season, with all preliminary rounds being held in races requiring one Compulsory Pit Stop.
Points will be awarded per race on a descending scale, with the fastest stop earning 13 points and the slowest earning 1 point. The 13 preliminary races will determine the top four teams that will compete in the live final.
Adding extra incentive through the season is a new prize pool for the preliminary races, with $5,000 going to the leading team of the preliminary stage, $3,500 going to the team in second, and $2,000 going to the team in third.
The top four teams will compete head-to-head in a high-stakes, live eliminator final. The winner will claim $20,000 and the coveted PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge Golden Rattle Gun. Details for the live final will be announced in due course.
2025 saw Brad Jones Racing claim their sixth Golden Rattle Gun, claiming the prize back off of Red Bull Ampol Racing, who ended BJR's five-year winning streak in 2024.
