BJR beats MSR in close PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge final
BJR claimed record-extending sixth Pit Stop Challenge victory
MSR suffered second consecutive defeat in Bathurst
Brad Jones Racing has reclaimed its PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge mantle with a dominant live final win over Matt Stone Racing in Bathurst.
Held in the city CBD at the Repco Bathurst Street Party, the live finals pitted crews from BJR, MSR and Blanchard Racing Team against each other.
As was the case between 2019 and 2023, BJR was the benchmark team with a flawless performance under pressure.
In the final, a slow left-front for MSR was all the incentive needed for BJR to close out another win, its sixth in seven years.
It was redemption for the Albury squad, which after winning five straight, was knocked out in the second semi final last year by eventual champion Triple Eight Race Engineering.
BJR not only claimed pit lane bragging rights, but won the $20,000 cash prize and the coveted Golden Rattle Gun Trophy.
Nick Percat took on James Courtney in the first semi, with MSR delivering Percat to the finish line first.
It was an all-BJR second semi, with Andre Heimgartner and Macauley Jones taking on each other. Heimgartner was released first, and got to the line.
It set up a BJR vs MSR final, with both teams chasing history. BJR was hunting its record-extending sixth PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge, with MSR its first.
All told, Heimgartner cruised home, sending BJR into raptures.
"These guys work so hard at doing this and it's just the a just reward for a job well done," Jones said.
"It's a great start to the weekend and man, they smashed it. I couldn't be prouder. We certainly are at a point where, when we follow someone in, it's a very good chance we're gonna beat them out."
Track action at the Repco Bathurst 1000 will commence on Thursday.
