Matt Payne issues statement on Supercars future amid speculation
Bathurst champion confirms intention to see out contract with Penrite Racing
General Motors known to attempt to secure Payne for 2027
Matt Payne has declared he expects to drive for Penrite Racing to the end of 2027, amid speculation over his future.
Payne has been at the centre of a hugely published tug-of-war, with General Motors known to have made overtures to the Bathurst champion.
On the eve of the betr Darwin Triple Crown, Payne affirmed his focus remains on Penrite Racing.
Payne explained that he is set see out his contract with the Ford squad next season, bringing a halt to suggestions GM could pry him away from Grove Racing early.
Critically, Payne made no comments in his future beyond 2027.
Teammate Kai Allen is locked down until 2030, while Red Bull Ampol Racing, Walkinshaw TWG Racing and Tickford Racing will all carry unchanged line-ups into 2027.
The statement comes after it emerged that Payne had a NASCAR Cup Series debut with Chevrolet blocked by Penrite Racing.
"Over the past few months there has been a lot of speculation about my future, so I wanted to provide a brief update," Payne said.
"Right now, my focus is on driving for Grove Racing and continuing to build on what we have achieved together. I have a contract with Grove Racing and I expect to be driving with the team to the end of 2027.
"For now, my priority is winning races, competing for the championship, and delivering the best possible results for Grove Racing, our sponsors and everyone who supports us.
"I am excited about what lies ahead and remain fully focused on the remainder of the 2026 season."
Payne sits second in the championship heading to this weekend's betr Darwin Triple Crown.
