No clear runaway favourite for the 2026 title, says Broc Feeney
Field of 10 became seven at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500
Only Triple Eight has both drivers remaining in Finals
Broc Feeney has declared that there is no clear runaway favourite for the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship, declaring that all seven Semi Finalists are of the right calibre.
10 became seven at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, with Kai Allen, Ryan Wood, and Jack Le Brocq's title hopes coming to an early end.
That leaves Matt Payne, Feeney, Brodie Kostecki, Chaz Mostert, Will Brown, Cam Waters, and Anton De Pasquale to slug it out across two 250km Sandown races, with four Grand Final berths on the line.
All seven have the credentials to do it. Payne leads the title race off the back of an ultra-consistent year, whilst at the other end of the scale Kostecki has more wins than anyone in 2026, including at Bathurst.
Red Bull Ampol Racing pairing Feeney and Brown clinched the Sprint and Enduro Cups respectively, Waters has led Tickford Racing from the front all year, whilst Mostert and De Pasquale are now fighting lone hands for Toyota and Chevrolet respectively.
If any of those seven win a race at Sandown, they're automatically fighting for a championship in Adelaide, but as we saw last year, anything can happen at the old-school Sandown. Such is the competitiveness, that Feeney isn't ready to make any big claims about his or anyone else's title chances.
"I think as the boys have touched on, the level of driving in the whole field is incredible at the moment," Feeney said on the Gold Coast.
"We've got probably one of the tightest championships in the world when you look at the time from first to last, especially at a track like this, and some of the other tracks we go to.
"Any of the top 10 drivers, if they won the championship you wouldn't be surprised, and that list just gets shorter now.
"I think everyone in the top seven is more than capable of being a championship winner, and that's just what makes this championship so tough and so exciting.
"The new format makes it... I don't know. It's hard to pick who is going to get knocked out or not, but it's going to be tough to get through Sandown.
"We saw it happen last year with Cam and Matt, we thought probably one of those boys would be in it, and they come together, so there's still plenty to play for."
Feeney enters Sandown as the second seed, 30 points behind Payne, and 54 points clear of teammate Brown below the cut-line.
The Penrite Oil Sandown 500 commences on Friday, November 6.
