Chaz Mostert crashed heavily in closing laps of Bathurst 1000
Teams have a week to turn cars around for Gold Coast 500
Mostert Toyota to go on chassis jig, Ryan Wood crashed twice
Walkinshaw TWG Racing is facing a busy turnaround to the Gold Coast, with both cars set for major repairs.
Chaz Mostert crashed out heavily at Forrest's Elbow in the closing laps of Sunday's Repco Bathurst 1000, an hour after teammate Ryan Wood hit the wall at Reid Park on lap 139.
Wood skull-dragged his damaged car back to the garage and finished the race after repairs, in what was a chastening outcome after Friday's practice crash.
However, worse was to come, with Mostert crashing out at Forrest's Elbow on lap 156.
Mostert pulled his crumpled Supra out at corner exit, and triggered the only Shannons Safety Car of the whole race.
The car returned to the paddock in the hours after the race, and speaking to Supercars.com, Team Principal Carl Faux gave a frank assessment of the damage.
“It’s f**ked,” Faux told Supercars’ Equip Super Cool Down Lap podcast.
Faux continued: "It's got a bit of damage. It's very, very similar to what Ryan had Friday actually, to be honest.
"So there's a bit of work to do. It's going to have to go on the jig. We've got to get the truck loaded by next Friday to get up to Surfers. It will be arriving back tomorrow night to the workshop, and then it'll be a big push through the week to turn that 'round.
"Obviously we've got to check Car 2 over as well from the repairs at the track. We've got a great team. They'll go to work. They'll do their thing."
Outcomes of 24th and DNF were desperately disappointing for the team, which despite qualifying both cars into the 2026 Finals, has a big week ahead.
However, the departing Faux remained excited for coming rounds, given the team heads into the post-season chasing another championship.
When asked about the day, Faux said: “It's a bit like Groundhog Day, isn't it?
“We had a shocking Bathurst last year, but we went on to great things. We'll pick up and we'll go to the next three rounds, which are circuits that we really, really enjoy racing at.
“We’ll put our best foot forward and see if we can come away with the No. 1 again."
