Camaro to undertake Ipswich evaluation
Engine mapping testing to take place before Perth
Testing comes amid ongoing fuel economy analysis
Track evaluation of the Chevrolet Supercars engine will take place with a Team 18 Camaro at Queensland Raceway on Wednesday.
GM homologation outfit Team 18 and GM engine supplier KRE Race Engines will roll out a Camaro to complete engine mapping testing.
Supercars has been measuring fuel economy at recent events, amid ongoing efforts to equalise fuel economy between the Camaro, Ford Mustang and Toyota Supra.
Minor mapping tweaks were implemented to the Chevrolet engines at last weekend’s NTI Townsville 500, which featured two refuelling races.
Team 18 star Anton De Pasquale delivered a podium in the Saturday race courtesy of a bold strategy, and explained that ongoing trends have encouraged the testing.
“[Fuel burn] obviously changes track to track,” De Pasquale said on Supercars’ Equip Super Cool Down Lap podcast.
“The fuel churn races and stuff, we seem to be needing a bit more fuel than the other guys, which is not something new.
“It’s a trend we've seen, even last year, we saw it a lot when there's a few of those big fuel-saving races, a lot of us couldn't make it, and others could. It's not something new.
“It's obviously something that's on top of our mind, and the sport is looking at it, obviously, for Bathurst and enduros.”
Declan Fraser and PremiAir Racing will also hit the track on Wednesday in a rookie test.
The 2026 Repco Supercars Championship will resume at the Bosch Power Tools Perth Super 440 on July 31-August 2. Tickets are on sale now.
