Broc Feeney makes championship statement in Perth Shootout
Feeney puts 0.2s on the field in one-lap dash, beating Cam Waters
Will Brown, Matt Payne fill out second row for Sunday's race
Broc Feeney has continued his championship march in 2025, dominating Sunday's Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout at the Bosch Power Tools Perth Super 440.
In the first Perth Shootout since 2009, Feeney soared to his sixth pole of the season courtesy of a rapid time, which proved 0.2s better than closest rival, Tickford Racing star Cam Waters.
While Feeney was the biggest winner, Waters was the biggest mover, having provisionally qualified seventh. Reigning champion Will Brown and Penrite Racing driver Matt Payne will launch from third and fourth.
"It was super challenging, and obviously oil down at Turn 6, so there was certainly a benefit going later in that session," Feeney said.
"We've all been doing it on our second or third lap this weekend, and I was watching Will's overlay from his lap and I saw it was a bit of a handful out there.
"I was able to sort of brace myself for that, and I got through the first couple of corners really good and it just set me up for a great lap.
"So stoked, two tenths on P2 around here is pretty awesome."
The session followed extensive clean-up efforts following an oil spill in an earlier support category race. Anton De Pasquale was the pioneer on a dirty track, and despite a wobble through Turn 6, the Team 18 driver recorded a 55.8346s for his rivals to chase.
James Golding fought for temperature before he commenced his lap, and after running a narrow line away from the mess at Turn 6, pieced together a 55.1202s to move 0.7s clear. Cameron Hill started his lap even later, and could only muster a 55.3685s.
Two-time Perth pole winner Waters was slightly down on the best first sector, before going purple in the final two sectors to lay down a 54.9104s. Ryan Wood also struggled to get his new tyres up to speed, and slotted into third with a 55.1499s after a slide at Turn 4.
Bryce Fullwood (55.4710s) couldn't fire a shot, leaving Brown, Payne, David Reynolds and Feeney standing in Waters' way of a first pole since Sydney. Brown lost time at Turn 1, and fell 0.078s short of his Ford rival.
Payne went nearly 0.1s ahead through the first sector, yet fell away and dropped behind both Waters and Brown with a 55.0909s. Reynolds slotted in just behind with a 55.0909s, leaving the floor to Feeney.
On new tyres, Feeney set about chasing a sixth Boost Mobile Pole of the season, and didn't put a foot wrong to put 0.2s on Waters with a 54.7025s.
Reynolds and Golding filled out Row 3, with Wood, Hill, Fullwood and De Pasquale completing the 10.
The Bosch Power Tools Perth Super 440 will conclude with the 200km Race 16 at 3:15pm local/5:15pm AEST.
