Reigning Bathurst teams champions go from zero to hero on opening day in Tassie
  • Both Erebus Camaros bounce back from disastrous Practice 1

  • Jack Le Brocq and Cooper Murray missed most of first session after drop gear error

  • Both drivers inside top six in Practice 2 at happy hunting ground for Erebus

Jack Le Brocq and Cooper Murray have sung the praises of Erebus Motorsport after turning around a disastrous Practice 1 with finishes of fifth and sixth in the final practice session of the Snowy River Caravans Tasmania Super 440.

The pair only ran five and three laps respectively in the opening half-hour session of the day after both drivers discovered that their cars were crashing into the rev limiter down the back straight.

When both Camaros returned to pit lane, it was discovered that both cars still had the Taupō drop gears fitted in the transmission

Both entries consigned to the garage as the team worked to fit the correct ratio for Symmons Plains, however the team could yet face potential punishment for having the wrong drop gear ratio installed in their cars.

Despite the setback, both Le Brocq and Murray were impressively on the pace in Practice 2 this afternoon, maintaining Erebus' trend of strong form in Tasmania that saw them win two races with Will Brown in 2023.

Murray's performance was especially impressive, given that this weekend is the first time that the 23-year-old has raced at Symmons Plains in any category.

"Considering we missed the majority of Practice 1, I think we've finished off really strong there at the end of Practice 2," said Murray.

"The car is in the window which is good, it's just some fine tuning to make sure we stay on top of it, and don't let the other competitors get in front.

"At the moment it feels strong enough, but you can't get too complacent in this category, especially with this track it'll be one tenth. As you can see, it would probably put me down in 14th from fifth.

"The margins are very tight, so you've got to keep on top of it, and keep working."

For Le Brocq, this could be the start of a weekend the 32-year-old needs as he finds himself 15th in the championship standings, 127 points behind 10th-placed Andre Heimgartner.

"Yeah hopefully, that's definitely the plan," replied Le Brocq when asked if this weekend could turnaround his season as he battles for The Finals.

"We've had fast cars all year, we've just had a little bit of bad luck from both sides of the garage unfortunately, and we just need to execute better as a team.

"The results will come, and the points as well, and hopefully we can move up pit lane, but fingers crossed. I love this place, and Cooper obviously loves this place as well, so fingers crossed we get it right tomorrow morning and get some good points on the board."

On-track action continues at the Snowy River Caravans Tasmania Super 440 with Boost Mobile Qualifying for Race 11 at 9:05am AEST.
