"We just need to do better," says Brodie Kostecki after Tasmania
Kostecki was third for round in New Zealand, before dropping to 23rd in Tasmania
DJR driver dropped from 111 to 298 points from the championship lead
Brodie Kostecki says the Shell V-Power Racing Team can't have repeats of its Tasmania slump, despite seeing comfort in the new-for-2025 championship system.
Kostecki and teammate Will Davison finished 23rd and 24th for the round at Symmons Plains, with the duo disqualified from the opener due to a technical infringement.
It comes after Kostecki was eighth for the round in Sydney, before being lead Ford driver in fifth in Melbourne, and an impressive third overall at Taupō.
Kostecki finished 12th in the second race before being taken out on Sunday by Bryce Fullwood, while Davison was turned around twice and caught traffic in qualifying.
It was a shock fall from grace for a team that set the standard at the last round in New Zealand, where Kostecki claimed two poles and both drivers scored podiums.
In one fell swoop, Kostecki dropped from 111 to 298 points from the championship lead, but despite being just 57 points above 10th, the 2023 champion took solace in this year's championship format. The top 10 drivers after the Enduro Cup will qualify for the Finals, with the title to be decided over the last three rounds.
Like team boss David Noble, Kostecki was pragmatic over the weekend, instead focusing on the positives.
“It didn’t go my way, it didn’t go the team’s way, it didn’t go Davo’s way, either,” Kostecki said on The Formation Lap.
“It was one of those unfortunate weekends, but to be honest, the car was actually quite fast. We just didn’t execute as a team.
"We’re pretty fortunate with the championship format this year we’re still in contention. We just need to do better and not have weekends like those, coming off New Zealand where the car was so strong.
“It was strong in the races all weekend, we just didn’t really have the results to show for it.”
Kostecki said he was happy with the progress with his car, despite the team regressing on the results sheets in Tasmania.
“We’ve been getting better each round,” said the 2024 Bathurst winner, who is four rounds into life with Dick Johnson Racing.
“Last weekend didn’t show for it. But the car’s been getting back into a window that I’m happy with.
“The car’s been quite fast, it’s been very nice on its tyres, it’s somewhere where we’ve made a big impact from last year. It’s been very fast towards the end of stints, just hasn’t fired off at the start of races."
Kostecki quickly shifted focus to the next round in his native Perth, where he is chasing his first victory after nine winless starts at CARCO.com.au Raceway.
“Hopefully I can put on a show for the home crowd," he added.
"I would really love to get a trophy at home, it’d be really special for me."
