  • Apologetic Bryce Fullwood explains Brodie Kostecki collision in Race 13

  • Fullwood and Kostecki came together at Turn 3, sending DJR Ford into the wall

  • Kostecki finished 12 laps down; Fullwood penalised over clash, Safety Car breach

Bryce Fullwood has apologised for his role in the clash that wiped both he and Brodie Kostecki out of contention in the Snowy River Caravans Tasmania Super 440 finale.

Fullwood, celebrating his 27th birthday on Sunday, arrived at the track buoyed by a breakthrough podium in the first race at Symmons Plains.

During the opening stint in Race 13, though, Fullwood's weekend turned on its head when he collided with Kostecki's Shell V-Power Ford through the fast Turn 3 sweeper.

Fullwood was running 12th during the opening stint, and emerged on cold tyres line astern with Kostecki after the Shure Chevrolet exited pit lane.

As they rounded Turn 3, the two cars came together, Kostecki spinning in front of the field, into the outside concrete wall, and out of contention.

Fullwood pitted immediately, and was first hit with a drive-through penalty over the incident, before copping a 15-second penalty over a Safety Car infringement.

The stricken Kostecki triggered the only Safety Car of the weekend, with the 2023 champion finishing 12 laps down in 22nd, just hours after he had been disqualified from Saturday's first race. Kostecki dropped to seventh and is just 57 points from 10th, with Fullwood 20th.

"Didn’t exactly get the birthday gift I was hoping for today,” Fullwood said.

"The car was really fast but we started off on the wrong foot this morning. I got caught up in someone else’s mistake during qualifying which set us back.

"Then unfortunately I had a tangle with Brodie coming out of the pits on four cold tyres — it was super close and a real shame. Apologies to him and his crew for that.

"The car actually had really strong pace in the race and there was a lot of potential today so I’m pretty disappointed we didn’t get to show what it could do.

"But overall we do take a trophy from this weekend and there’s been more pace in the car than we’ve had probably all year.

"So yeah, excited about that and looking forward to Perth where hopefully we can tidy things up and have a cleaner weekend."

The 2025 season resumes in Kostecki's native Perth on June 6-8. Tickets on sale now.
