Rylan Gray cops points penalty over Christchurch pile-up
DJR rookie loses 25 points, drops from 19th to 21st in standings
Gray hit with careless driving charge over role in incident
Shell V-Power Racing Team rookie Rylan Gray has been hit with a points penalty over the clash that wiped out several cars in the Christchurch finale.
The #38 Shell V-Power Mustang was one of three retirements from Sunday's race, and one of two to come from the lap 1 incident that saw a number of cars hit with damage.
Gray, Aaron Cameron, Jackson Walls, Thomas Randle and David Reynolds were all delayed in the incident, with Gray and Cameron retiring from the race.
Post-race, it was revealed that Gray had received a points penalty over the incident, given he would have been unable to serve a time penalty during the race.
Gray was hit with a careless driving charge, departing from the standard of a competent driver, having been found to have instigated the incident.
As a result, Gray has been docked 25 points, dropping him behind Macauley Jones and Cameron in the championship standings.
The stewards report reads: "On Lap 1 Car 38 followed Car 11 into Turn 8 and impacted the rear of Car 11. Car 3 became involved in the collision Car 3 and Car 38 retired.
"The collision was caused by the careless driving of the Driver of Car 38.
"A Penalty of 25 Driver’s Championship Points is consistent with other penalties imposed where a Time Penalty is ineffective as the Car has been retired."
Gray will resume his rookie campaign in Tasmania next month.
