Broc Feeney wants to put critics in their place after New Zealand
Triple Eight failed to bring home a trophy for first time since August 2023
Reigning champions have a record 26 Supercars wins in Tasmania
Plenty has been said and written about Triple Eight's uncharacteristic drop-off in New Zealand, and Broc Feeney has seen enough.
Feeney and Will Brown missed the podium in all three races at Taupō, marking the first instance of Triple Eight failing to bring home a trophy since August 2023.
It was just the second time in 27 rounds in the Gen3 era, and the 30th time in 274 rounds since the start of 2005. Clearly, the slump was rare, and many were quick to point it out, Mark Skaife included.
Amid the media coverage and fan response, Brown and Feeney still hold first and fourth in the drivers' standings, with Triple Eight almost 200 points clear atop the teams' championship.
Speaking ahead of Tasmania, where Triple Eight has won a record 26 races, Feeney said that despite the no-show in New Zealand, there's no reason why his team can't aim for wins at Symmons Plains.
“Obviously everyone's been pretty critical of us at New Zealand and so are we, we're critical on ourselves,” Feeney said.
"For sure, Tassie's about going there and trying to win, which we've done the last few years we've been there. Didn't get a win last year, but got pole positions and podiums.
"There's no reason why we can't go there this year and aim for three wins."
Feeney and Brown have impressed in Tasmania in recent years; Feeney claimed his first podium there in 2022, won a race in 2023, and scored a pole last year. With Erebus Motorsport, Brown won two races in 2023.
Brown suggested rival teams are getting up to speed with their Gen3 Supercars, which is tightening the competitive order and encouraging more different winners.
All told, Triple Eight has two wins in nine starts this season, its lowest haul of wins in the opening three rounds in five years. The team had one win after three rounds in 2019 and 2020, when Scott McLaughlin and DJR Team Penske dominated with the new Ford Mustang.
Feeney knows there are no guarantees that Triple Eight will be fighting for wins in Tasmania, citing how other teams have also been on a rollercoaster in 2025. Notably, Feeney referenced Cam Waters, who after winning all three Sydney races from pole, has just one podium in his last six starts.
"I'd much rather know that I'm gonna be at the front every weekend,” Feeney said.
"I think with the different tyres over the weekend, the field's just all over the shop. At Sydney, someone like Cam absolutely dominated, then struggled a little bit the Grand Prix and we dominated the Grand Prix and struggled in New Zealand.
“We're hoping to bounce back, get back on that front foot. But for sure, the field’s so up and down at the moment and Tasmania's the closest track we're gonna go to.
“A lot of people have been talking about if we're gonna bounce back. It'll just be good to get back to work and get some results."
Track action in Tasmania commences on Friday May 9.
