Broc Feeney alarmed by "tennis ball" sized rubber clump
Championship leader nearly put win in doubt in closing laps
Feeney extended lead to 27 points over Will Brown
Broc Feeney revealed he had to dodge a “tennis ball” sized rubber clump en route to victory in Perth.
The championship leader closed out victory at the Bosch Power Tools Perth Super 440, taking victory after heartbreak for Ryan Wood.
Feeney raced away from teammate Will Brown in the closing laps, with Chaz Mostert hounding the reigning champion.
The points leader’s charge to victory wasn’t without its own scares, however, with Feeney spooked by a large clump of rubber build-up around the back of the circuit.
“There was some huge rubber balls at the end of the race there,” Feeney said.
“With a few laps to go, turn into Turn 4 and there's one sort of bigger than a tennis ball and you just sort of swerve to try and miss it.
“So, it's the most I've seen in quite a long time. Like on the old Soft tyre, I felt like we used to get a lot of marbles. It was pretty bad out there.
"I'm sure we'll get a sweep tonight. Hopefully it's a bit better tomorrow. But after a 200km race tomorrow afternoon, I think it's gonna be pretty bad.
"You're trying to avoid it pretty much at all costs out there.”
Feeney leads Brown by 27 points heading into Sunday’s action.
