bp Adelaide Grand Final marks 40 years since 1985 Australia Grand Prix
Winning Holdens announced for anniversary celebrations
The upcoming bp Adelaide Grand Final marks 40 years since the first major event at the Adelaide Street Circuit, with a host of historic cars to feature at the event.
The 2025 bp Adelaide Grand Final will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix in the South Australian capital.
Between 1985 and 1995, 11 F1 Grands Prix were held on the original 3.78km Adelaide layout before the event moved to Melbourne’s Albert Park in 1996.
Supercars has raced on a shortened version of the circuit since 1999, bar 2021. Since 2022, Adelaide has hosted the Supercars season finale.
Eight historic cars have been announced in the first intake of 40th anniversary celebrations, with on-track demonstrations and an off-track display of F1 cars, Supercars and other Adelaide-famous cars to feature.
It includes the inaugural Adelaide 500-winning Craig Lowndes Holden VT Commodore from 1999, James Courtney’s dual Adelaide-winning Holden VF Commodore, and two notable Triple Eight Holdens.
The 2022 Adelaide-winning Broc Feeney Holden ZB Commodore, the last Holden to win a Supercars race, will be joined by the sister car carried to championship victory by Shane van Gisbergen.
Van Gisbergen famously marked the win with a now memorable burnout on pit straight.
A Paul Morris Motorsport VE Commodore, the first Dick Johnson Racing-built Falcon V8 Supercar, a Peter Brock BMW M3 Group A and Holden Commodore V8 Ute have also been announced.
More cars will be announced in due course.
Earlier this year, bp Adelaide Grand Final organisers also announced that Red Bull will bring two 2011-specification RB7 F1 cars. A host of historic F1 cars are also expected to take part in the November 27-30 event.
