The seven Finals Drivers who will contest the Semi Final at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 have been set, following a grandstand finish in Race 29 at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.
With Chaz Mostert and Broc Feeney both locked in by virtue of a win and podium yesterday respectively, it left five spots in the Semi Final to be fought for by eight drivers.
The pressure struck early in the day, as Ryan Wood, Brodie Kostecki, Anton De Pasquale, and Will Brown all missed the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout.
As it turned out, it proved a nail in the coffin for the first two, who were relying on a win to guarantee their berths into the Semi Final.
It also spelt disaster for De Pasquale, as his biggest threat Thomas Randle qualified a superb second, giving his chances of bumping his way above the cut-line a massive boost.
As the race progressed, those two became the centre of attention for the Finals battle
The tension for Randle and De Pasquale ramped up in the final 10 laps of the race, as Randle faded through the order, and De Pasquale began to charge through the field.
Randle was bumped into the fence by Kai Allen in the fight for sixth at the final corner, though the Penrite Racing rookie redressed, whilst De Pasquale tipped James Courtney into the Turn 11 wall as he attempted to overtake for ninth.
The telling blow to De Pasquale's campaign was the 15-second penalty that followed as a result of the contact, dropping from ninth in the results back to 16th.
