Ford Performance Racing’s quest to find the next big thing comes to an end this Saturday with the final episode of Shannons Supercar Showdown, which will pit grand finalists Tim Macrow and Todd Hazelwood against each other in a fastest-takes-all shootout.
Macrow versus Hazelwood will air on 7mate at 5pm tomorrow and will be the ultimate clash of youth and experience after their rivals were eliminated in the semi-final last week.
The duo emerged successful from an intense four-way battle which will see 31-year old Macrow take on 17-year old Hazelwood in a shootout in a FPR V8 Supercar at Calder Park Raceway north of Melbourne.
In the seven previous episodes Macrow has dominated the competition, winning four of the seven points challenges and he believes his extensive experience will give him the edge.
Hazelwood’s progress through the competition has been a complete contrast, making a number of rookie errors, which saw him finish at the bottom of the points table for team captain Will Davison.
It was Davison’s belief the teenager had underlying ability that allowed him to progress to the semi-final as Team Davison’s Captain’s Choice.
The Grand Final will see Macrow and Hazelwood drive 10 laps of the Calder Park long-course in an FPR-built V8 Supercar – the same car driven by 2014 FPR graduate Chaz Mostert in last year’s Dunlop Series.
The winner of season three of Shannons Supercar Showdown will be the driver who sets the fastest lap time.
That speed will be rewarded with a testing contract with FPR and a V8 Supercars drive in Shannons colours at a Dunlop Series event.
The final episode of Shannons Supercar Showdown airs at 5pm AEDT on 7mate tomorrow, Saturday 9 November. Check your local guides for further details.
