Brodie Kostecki will start his maiden NASCAR Cup Series race from the rear of the grid at Indianapolis after a qualifying crash.

Kostecki is one of two Supercars drivers, along with Shane van Gisbergen, competing at the Indy road course this weekend.

The Erebus Motorsport driver crashed late his Richard Childress Racing #33 MobileX Chevrolet late in his qualifying group.

Kostecki lost control of his Camaro as he entered the banked section of the road course at Turn 11.

The #33 Camaro hit the wall with both front and rear of the left-side of the car, with Kostecki spinning out.

On social media, Kostecki confirmed he will start from the back for Monday’s (AEST race, having been shifted in a back-up chassis by RCR.

Kostecki had qualified 11th, with van Gisbergen eighth.

“Had a little mishap in qualifying after qualifying P11,” he wrote.

“Starting rear of field tomorrow and have some work to do.

“Thanks to everyone at [Richard Childress Racing].”

Qualifying 11th was a feat in itself given Kostecki missed the bulk of practice due to a throttle pedal issue.

On the crash, he added: “I’m pretty disappointed in myself to be honest.

“I was just finishing my lap a little too hot coming off the banking and now we have damage.

“The car has speed, no doubt. We should be okay for the race.”

The race is scheduled to start at 4:30am AEST on Monday, and will be shown live on Fox Sports and streamed on Kayo.
