James Courtney and Chaz Mostert have shared differing views over their late-race incident in Race 7.

Courtney and Mostert clashed at the final corner on the final lap battling over third.

The contact sent Courtney into the barriers and down to ninth, with Mostert crossing the line fourth.

A post-race penalty dropped Mostert to 22nd, with Lee Holdsworth finishing third.

Shane van Gisbergen won the race ahead of David Reynolds, and extended his points lead.

For Mostert, the drama began at Turn 13 after Courtney escorted him wide.

"I'm not a lawnmower there," Mostert said.

"I think if Courtney goes and looks back at it, I'm not here to do the lawns around the Grand Prix.

"You’ve got to give respect out there to get it back.

"When you constantly play 'the old 1984' or whatever age he is game out there, you've got to give some room, even if the guy goes to the outside, we were side by side.

"You can't just run him onto the grass, that's what results in the last corner."

Courtney had held third after the second restart, having benefited from contact between Will Davison and Brodie Kostecki.

Mostert hounded Courtney and loomed to steal a podium finish.

Race 6 winner Mostert drew alongside Courtney into Turn 13, and the latter held firm on the inside.

That became the outside for the final corner, and contact was made.

After the race, Courtney said the latter move was "outside the boundaries".

"I’m frustrated, it’s disappointing, we race pretty hard. I like racing hard but fair," Courtney said.

"But I felt like that was a little outside the boundaries there.

"On the last lap, when we've been pushing really hard, and to get the podium taken away, it’s pretty disappointing.

"I think he probably would agree, once he sort of sits down and cools down.

"I don’t know what he has said or anything but it’s pretty disappointing.

In response to Mostert's post-race penalty, the Tickford driver was left despondent.

"It doesn’t give us the podium,” Courtney said.

"It doesn't give us back the podium for our sponsors and our team, it’s disappointing."

Cars will return to the track at 2:20pm AEST for Race 7.
