Greg Murphy needs little introduction, even if he is making his first Bathurst start in eight years.

The legendary Kiwi has been coaxed out of retirement and will race an Erebus wildcard with Richie Stanaway.

'Murph' was most recently a treasured part of Supercars' broadcasting.

He last raced at Mount Panorama, where he won four times, in 2014.

Murphy first won the Great Race in 1996 with Craig Lowndes, and won again with Steven Richards in 1999.

Murphy was a key figure of V8 Supercars' boom growth in the 2000s, and demonstrated his prowess on both home soil and the Mountain.

The hometown hero won nine races at Pukekohe between 2001 and 2005.

Between 2003 and 2004, Murphy and Bathurst were joined at the hip. Few could forget that Shootout lap in 2003.

Freshly 50, what can Murphy achieve in 2022?
