Supercars star Cam Waters will launch from 22nd for his maiden NASCAR Truck Series race, which will be shown live on Fox Sports and Kayo.

The Tickford Racing driver clocked a 19.762s lap in qualifying on the half-mile circuit, some 0.345s behind pole sitter and ThorSport teammate Ty Majeski.

It was an impressive showing by Waters, who led the first seven minutes of the session following a single half-hour practice hit out.

In just his first NASCAR session, Waters adapted to the challenge and ended up 11th on the time sheets, just 0.194s off the ultimate practice pace.

"So much fun," Waters said in a Ford Performance video after practice.

"The team has been really accommodating, got a bunch of legends on my car, which made it so much easier."

The #66 TRADIE-backed Ford was the third out on track in qualifying, and Waters went quickest by 0.089s before the experienced drivers began to set fast times.

Waters was still the third fastest Ford at the 30-minute mark, before he eventually ended up 22nd of 34 runners.

In a win for Aussie fans, the Long Johns Silver's 200 will be shown live on Fox Sports 506 and Kayo, with coverage getting underway at 10:00am AEST.

The race will commence at 10:30am.
