Five V8 Supercars have arrived in Malaysia ahead of this weekend's KL City Grand Prix, with the drivers raring to go and teams eager to check out the brand new street circuit.
The cars arrived late Tuesday evening local time after being transported by air from Queensland by Gibson Freight, and will be moved to the circuit ahead of running on Friday.
Drivers and personnel also arrived today after flying from their respective bases in Victoria and Queensland, with Red Bull Racing Australia (Holden), Prodrive Racing Australia (Ford), Erebus Motorsport (Mercedes Benz AMG), Wilson Security GRM (Volvo) and Nissan Motorsport represented at the showcase Malaysian event.
There is a busy schedule for the drivers on arrival, and they will have the chance to check out the circuit from Friday with an early morning track walk scheduled.
Craig Lowndes, Chaz Mostert, Will Davison, Scott McLaughlin and Todd Kelly all feel privileged to represent their team, their brand and the sport, and guarantee they will put on a show this weekend.
"I'm sure we'll all have a great week and do our best to show V8 Supercars in a positive light over there," Davison told v8supercars.com.au.
"We only know how to go one speed [and] there's no pressure. We're just going to have fun and drive a pretty exciting circuit.
"We love driving these cars, and when there's no pressure on you, it adds a whole level of enjoyment. There's always so much other pressure that goes with it that you forget to enjoy yourself sometimes.
"No doubt we're all just going to enjoy ourselves on what is a pretty cool track and it's always a privilege when you can drive a car on a street track with no performance pressure."
Kelly, who is steering his brother Rick's Jack Daniel's V8 Supercar, teased in the lead up that he would not be going easy while borrowing the race car.
"It's going to be interesting to see how serious it's going to get!" he said.
"That's what I'm waiting to find out - if there's going to be rubber marks all down the doors or what the deal is!
"But we'll see what happens ... I think we'll all be giving it a bit of a crack."
While seeing five cars racing on track will be quite unusual for long-time V8 Supercars fans, Mostert added that you only needed more than one competitor to have an exciting race.
"I'm sure we'll turn it up for the people there - you can have a race with two cars so I'm sure it's going to be on for young and old with five cars," the young gun said.
