The Repco Supercars Championship roars into Reid Park across July 7-9 for the 15th consecutive year of racing in North Queensland at the NTI Townsville 500.
Townsville City Council will be welcoming Supercars to town with a street party celebration on Thursday July 7, from 4pm.
The SuperFest event in Flinders St East will feature Supercars driver signings, course cars display, the Hot Wheels team, the Supercars SuperKids Zone, live music and food trucks.
Fans can grab a free poster and get an autograph from their favourite driver with all 25 Championship drivers ready to meet with fans at an all-in autograph session from 5pm – 6pm.
The free community event is open to everyone.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said SuperFest was the perfect way to lead into a weekend of high-octane racing action.
“The Supercars event is one of the most loved events on our calendar and attracts thousands of people to our region,” Cr Hill said.
“The SuperFest event is a great opportunity for the city to come together, celebrate and meet the drivers who will be racing around our Reid Park track.
“Council is proud to support events like these which are in line with our commitment to delivering major cultural events in our city, helping to boost our reputation as the events capital of Northern Australia.”
Cr Hill said the event would even be a hit for people who weren’t die hard racing fans.
“You don’t have to Supercars fan to enjoy the live music, roving entertainment, kids’ activities and more that will be part of the SuperFest event,” she said.
“It’s always great to see Townsville get together to support major events that travel to our city and I’m sure the crowd at SuperFest will be another reflection of Townsville’s great community spirit.”
NTI Townsville 500 Event Manager Matt Ramsden said: "Superfest sets the stage for an incredible weekend of racing at the NTI Townsville 500, and we want fans to be right in the heart of the action.
“It’s a free event on the eve of one of our biggest races meets of the year, so we hope to see as many fans as possible turn out to talk to drivers and check out some of the Supercars and other race cars that will be on track at Reid Park.”
