Matt Stone Racing set to return to Dunlop Super2 Series
MSR to run ex-Triple Eight ZB Commodores, Ayrton Hodson first confirmed driver
More driver announcements expected in due course
Matt Stone Racing have officially confirmed their return to the Dunlop Super2 Series after a three year absence from the development series.
MSR, who claimed the 2017 Super2 title with Todd Hazelwood, have made a multi-year commitment to the category, with a team release stating that they will be on the grid in '2026 and beyond.'
Owned and founded by Matt Stone, son of Supercars Hall of Famer Jimmy Stone, MSR debuted in Super2 in 2011, and graduated to the main game with Hazelwood in 2018 following their title success.
Their last season in the development series came back in 2022, with the team pulling out to focus on their burgeoning Supercars program amid the shift to Gen3 regulations.
Having won races in the Repco Supercars Championship in every season of the Gen3 era to date, and also establishing a Wildcard program in 2025, Stone said now was the ideal time to return.
“We’re very excited to be re-entering the Super2 Series,” said Stone.
“Super2 has always been an important part of our identity as a team, and the plan was always to return to Super2 when the time was right.
"After a successful execution of our wildcard program in 2025 the timing is perfect to expand upon that with a return to Super2.”
MSR also confirmed their first signing to their revived Super2 program, with Kiwi Ayrton Hodson returning for a second season in the Dunlop Series.
Hodson turned heads on debut in Sydney, when he qualified on the front row in a Anderson Motorsport Mustang, which he will now trade for an ex-Triple Eight ZB Commodore.
“I’m incredibly excited for this opportunity and proud to be joining MSR,” said Hodson.
“MSR has a great reputation for developing young drivers, and to be part of that is something I’ve worked hard toward. I can’t wait to get started.”
Further announcements on drivers will be made in due course, with the release teasing that MSR 'will field a series of new drivers,' with the team set to run an evaluation day with Hodson, Alice Buckley, and Tommy Smith at Queensland Raceway.
The 2026 Dunlop Super2 Series begins at the Sydney 500 from February 20-22. Tickets for the season opener, including Free Friday, are on sale now.
