Brodie Kostecki penalised over qualifying incident
Kostecki found to have impeded Jackson Walls in Race 14 session
DJR driver receives two-spot grid penalty for Tasmania opener
Brodie Kostecki has received a grid penalty for Race 14 in Tasmania following Boost Mobile Qualifying.
The Shell V-Power Racing Team driver qualified third for the Tyrepower Tasmania Super 440 opener, behind Chaz Mostert and Anton De Pasquale.
However, Kostecki has been demoted to fifth after being hit with a two-spot grid penalty for the first 50-lapper of the weekend.
Kostecki was found to have impeded Objective Racing rookie Jackson Walls in the first part of Boost Mobile Qualifying for Race 14.
Walls caught Kostecki, who was exiting pit lane, as the two Fords approached Turn 3. Walls backed out of his lap to avoid hitting the rear of Kostecki's Mustang.
Walls qualified 11th for the race, narrowly missing a Q2 berth, with Kostecki going on to qualify third.
The stewards report reads:
The Stewards summoned and heard from the Drivers of Cars 17, 4 and 11 and their Authorised Representatives and reviewed broadcast vision and judicial camera vision from Car 11.
Car 17 had exited the Pit Lane and was stopped on Driver’s right at the end of the Pit Lane to give way to traffic on track in compliance with the Race Director’s Instruction.
At a point in time when there was a gap to further traffic and the blue flag at Pit Exit had been withdrawn, Car 17 attempted to move off but had no traction.
By the time Car 17 gained traction, Car 4 was arriving at Turn 2.
Car 17 stayed to the right of track but nonetheless the position of Car 17 compromised Car 4’s exit to Turn 2. Car 11 was similarly affected.
