Brodie Kostecki to miss Saturday's Top Ten Shootout
Kerb strikes condemn Bathurst winner to 11th on the grid for GC500 opener
Will Brown under investigation for potential impeding
The top two in the Repco Bathurst 1000 were in the wars in Friday qualifying, with Brodie Kostecki to be a notable absentee from Saturday's Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout.
Kostecki picked up dual kerb strikes at the Beach Chicane on his final flying laps, while a mistake at the final corner put paid to his efforts.
A last-gasp flyer from Kai Allen, who was on the outside looking in, sealed Kostecki's fate, the #17 Ford missing the cut by just 0.0388s.
The Dick Johnson Racing driver enters the weekend fourth in the points.
"I made a little mistake on my last run through the last corner, but I'm not even sure if we would've made it in anyway," Kostecki said.
"Was struggling in two corners in Turn 4 and just down the back straight. So a little bit to work on, but I know the race car will be fine.
"Little bit to work on for the race, but I'm sure we'll be fine."
2024 Supercars champion Will Brown, meanwhile, was placed under investigation for an alleged impeding incident on Jack Le Brocq. Le Brocq caught Brown on the run to the final corner, the latter moving off the racing line at the last moment.
Brown qualified seventh, some 0.2s behind provisional pole man Anton De Pasquale.
When asked about the alleged incident, Brown said: "I moved over and let him go, but we'll wait and see if it was too late, to be honest. I'm not too sure. I haven't watched it back yet.
"A bit confusing, a lot of people had headlights on, not running, so thought it was [Cam] Waters behind me who was on a warming lap. But moved out of the road, so I'll have a look at it."
Saturday's Supercars action commences with the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout at 12:35pm local time/1:35pm AEDT.
