Supercars confirms Ford change after testing
Barometric pressure testing conducted pre-event
Supercars approves change of ESD on Ford
Supercars has approved a change to the Ford Mustang engine for this weekend’s Repco Bathurst 1000, following pre-event testing.
Prior to the 2025 Bathurst event, Supercars conducted barometric pressure testing, with further testing taking place in the lead up to the 2026 event.
In a note sent to the Supercars Commission on Thursday, Supercars advised that the Ford engine suffered a loss of power at altitude.
The change to the Mustang engine, which was developed by Ford homologation team Triple Eight Race Engineering, will be in effect for Bathurst only, and will be reversed for the Gold Coast round later this month.
The Chevrolet and Toyota engines remain unchanged for Bathurst.
"As you're aware, Supercars have conducted Barometric engine testing over the last 12 months and recently completed a further test,” the note says.
"The results of this test have been provided to the Homologation Teams following which consultation has taken place.
"The testing has identified a power loss on the Ford at lower Barometric pressure and as such Supercars have approved a change of ESD developed by the Ford Homologation team to correct this for the Bathurst event only.
"No change is required to either the GM or Toyota.”
Track action commences on Thursday with dual practice sessions.
