Ryan Wood, Walkinshaw TWG Racing rocked by huge crash
Wood's Bathurst campaign takes huge hit after crash in Practice 3
Kiwi crashed heavily at Forrest's Elbow
Ryan Wood's Bathurst campaign has taken a huge hit after the Walkinshaw TWG Racing star crashed heavily midway through Practice 3.
The New Zealander, who struggled for balance in the #2 Mobil 1 Truck Assist Supra on Thursday, walked away from a significant impact at Forrest's Elbow.
Wood clipped the inside wall at the tight left-hander, which ricocheted the Toyota towards the outside wall. The car leapt off the ground, before coming to rest at corner exit.
The Kiwi was short of breath as he radioed in to his team, apologising to engineer Richard Harris.
"As far as the bodywork and everything like this, we're not concerned about that at this stage," Walkinshaw TWG Technical Director Carl Faux said on the broadcast.
"It's seeing how much damage is done, and whether we can get this out for later today or not. But we'll do it precisely and make sure that we can get out with a eally straight car for the rest of the weekend.
"Ryan's good. He's apologetic but, hey, this stuff happens at the Mountain, you know? It's day two, his first green tyre run. There's plenty more laps he's gonna do around here yet this weekend."
Co-driver Jaxon Evans added: "Obviously I’m glad to see him out of the car.
"We were just working through some stuff. We put a green set of tyres on then and it was his first push lap and was looking like a pretty good lap.
"Just miscalculated a little bit and got the inside fence. As we know here, if you touch any concrete it’s normally not good news.
"A bit of work for the boys to do but I’m sure we’ll get it turned around."
