Ben Gomersall completes Sydney Super2 practice sweep
Gomersall edged out former Tickford driver Lochie Dalton by 0.08s
Race 1 Qualifying begins at 1:50pm tomorrow
New Tickford Autosport signing Ben Gomersall has swept both of Friday's practice sessions at the opening round of the 2026 DUNLOP Super2 Series at Sydney.
Having topped the opening session of the year by two tenths of a second, the 2025 rookie of the year went a second faster in Practice 2 as the lights began to take hold as day begins to turn into night.
Gomersall pipped the former driver of his #6 Tickford Mustang, Lochie Dalton, by just 0.08s to complete the sweep, and keep 2025 teams' champions Tickford Autosport firmly in command.
Limits were being pushed early in the session, Ayrton Hodson and Nash Morris both having moments at Turn 6, and Bayley Hall and Campbell Logan both having trips through the grass at Turn 2.
Once again, the Tickford Mustangs were at the forefront, Ben Gomersall the first one who dipped into the 1m 31s bracket on a 1:31.8376s almost immediately, backing it up with a 1:31.4657s.
That marker would remain until well past the halfway mark of the session, with Zak Best laying down what would the first of a series of fast laps, with a 1:30.7955s, nearly seven tenths up on Gomersall.
The times would continue to tumble as the sun began to set, with Nash Morris the first to dip below with a 1:30.7018s, before Lochie Dalton put down a big marker at a 1:30.2726s.
Teenager Ryan Tomsett then went an impressive second in the #17 Anderson Motorsport Mustang, which was then usurped by the #2 Brad Jones Racing Commodore of Matt Hillyer.
Gomersall went back to the top with less than three minutes to go thanks to a 1:30.1844s, with Cody Burcher threatening to give that number a nudge, though a lap that began with a purple first sector faded.
Whilst Dalton was up at the front of the queue, his BRT teammate Bailey Sweeny was struggling at Turn 2, having several offs in the final minutes as he looked to find more lap time.
Hillyer and Tomsett would finish third and fourth, with recently-announced Tickord co-driver Reuben Goodall rounding out the top five.
Brad Vaughan, Morris, Burcher, Hodson, and Best rounded out the top 10.
Boost Mobile Qualifying for the opening race of the 2026 DUNLOP Super2 Series begins at 1:50pm local time tomorrow afternoon.
