Four DNFs and a DSQ from manic Super2 Friday race
Reuben Goodall and Ben Gomersall clashed off the line
Jonathon Webb disqualified after Matt Hillyer clash
A wild Friday in the DUNLOP Super2 Series has changed the points battle, while Jonathan Webb's cameo appearance began with a disqualification.
Reuben Goodall and Ben Gomersall collided in a Tickford Autosport clanger into Turn 1, opening the door to Lochie Dalton to extend his points lead.
Before Dalton overtook Blanchard Racing Team teammate Bailey Sweeny for the win, Gomersall moved over on Goodall off the start, and both Fords collided.
Gomersall was beached and was ruled out, while Goodall dragged his damaged Ford back to the pits.
Heading into Saturday, Goodall and Gomersall are 219 and 258 points behind Dalton respectively.
"Everyone got a pretty average start, I had a pretty good start," Goodall said on the broadcast.
"I had the right to be on the outside, unfortunately Benny changed his line into [Turn] 1 and tried to open up the corner, which I understand, but I can't just disappear.
"Really disappointing, we've got to watch Lochie win another race, it's a hard championship when you've got a guy like that, so fast.
"You keep coming together with your teammates, it's like fighting a losing battle, really. A little bit emotional, it's probably the end of our championship hunt, but what can you do? Just keep pushing on."
Webb, who replaced Zak Best at Anderson Motorsport, was rubbed from the results after his involvement in an incident with Matt Hillyer.
Webb sent Hillyer into the barriers at Forrest's Elbow, and was hit with a drive-through penalty. Webb took the chequered flag sixth, but was disqualified for disobeying black flags.
The stewards report reads: "The Stewards viewed in-car photos from Car 78 which showed the Black Flag with Car 78’s number being displayed.
"The Stewards imposed a Black Flag, Drive Through Penalty on Car 78 for a driving infringement. This penalty was broadcast over the RMC at 15:51 by the Race Director, and the Team stated that they had relayed this penalty to the Driver.
"The Driver failed to enter Pit Lane to serve the penalty as required by the rule and took the chequered flag. The Stewards find the Rule has been breached and impose a penalty consistent with previous breaches of this Rule."
