Lochie Dalton secures first pole of 2026
Dalton claims BRT's first Super2 pole since 2024
Tasmanian claimed his fifth career pole
Blanchard Racing Team's fairytale weekend has continued, with Lochie Dalton securing the team's first DUNLOP Super2 Series pole position since 2024.
The Tasmanian came out on top of a Mustang squabble at the head of the field, leading his former ride in the #6 Tickford Autosport Mustang, now driven Ben Gomersall.
Before track action commenced at Sydney Motorsport Park today, the decision was made to utilise the shorter Druitt Circuit for the remainder of support category running today.
That included the DUNLOP Super2 Series, who rolled out for qualifying in much cooler track conditions with a mid-morning session, but by no means was it cold as the temperature was in the mid-20's.
Qualifying proved to be crucial yesterday, with Brad Vaughan dominating the opening race of the year after starting on the outside of the front row.
Lochie Dalton repeated his Saturday form as he put more than half a second on the field on his first run, the #43 Mustang setting a 1:02.0027s, though still a second off Zak Best's pole time from yesterday.
Elliott Cleary ran long into Turn 2 on his first lap, and took a while to find a gear to get off the wet grass, but the session remained green as the #38 Commodore returned to the track.
Best was the first out on a good set of rubber, and he was the first to dip into the 1:01's with a 1:01.9110s, before going even faster on his second lap with a 1:01.8406s.
However the Blanchard Racing Team recruit responded, and went straight back to the top on a 1:01.5142s, putting more than three tenths on Best.
A flurry of Commodores then entered the fight, with Vaughan, Bayley Hall, and Matt Chahda all leaping into the top five, before Chahda's teammate Jordyn Sinni went to third.
Bradi Owen then leapt to his best ever qualifying result to go third, before Ben Gomersall put himself onto the front row with a 1:01.5807s, less than a tenth behind Dalton.
Campbell Logan then put his Tickford Mustang onto the second row, going third ahead of teammate Reuben Goodall, with Best and Owen starting on row three.
Sinni starts alongside Nash Morris, continuing a quiet weekend for the #55 Tickford Mustang, with Race 1 winner Vaughan starting back in ninth next to BJR teammate Matt Hillyer.
Race 2 for the opening round of the DUNLOP Super2 Series begins at 2:40pm local time.
