Phillip Island to host Supercars from 2027 to 2031
The Repco Supercars Championship will make a triumphant return to Phillip Island from 2027.
Confirmed by the Carroll Labor Government on Friday, Phillip Island will return as a Finals round from next season.
Phillip Island will host a final series round of the Repco Supercars Championship for five years from 2027 to 2031.
The world famous Grand Prix venue, which last hosted Supercars in 2019, is set to host its MotoGP Australian Grand Prix next weekend.
Only seven circuits — Wanneroo Raceway, Symmons Plains Raceway, Sandown Raceway, Sydney Motorsport Park, Hidden Valley Raceway, Winton Motor Raceway and Oran Park Raceway — have hosted more championship races.
Supercars Executive Chairman and acting CEO, Barclay Nettlefold, hailed the return of the Island.
“As we celebrate 30 years of Supercars in 2027, it feels incredibly fitting to return to Phillip Island, a circuit that formed part of our championship in 1997 and holds a special place in the history of our sport,” Nettlefold said.
“Phillip Island is an iconic venue that has delivered some memorable moments for Supercars, and we’re incredibly excited to bring the championship back and create a new chapter in that history for our fans, teams and drivers.”
Phillip Island has taken on several guises over the years in Supercars, from hosting an enduro, season finales, and season openers.
From 2027, it is set to play a crucial role in determining the destiny of the Repco Supercars Championship crown.
“Phillip Island is one of the most spectacular and recognisable circuits in Australia, and we're excited by the opportunity to bring the Repco Supercars Championship back to this beloved venue,” Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO Travis Auld said.
“We have a proven track record delivering world-class sporting events, and we're looking forward to working closely with Supercars, the Victorian Government and local stakeholders, with the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit providing the perfect stage.”
Minister for Major Events Anthony Carbines said: “Supercars are coming back to Phillip Island, and so are the crowds and the customers for local businesses.
“Labor has locked this in for five years, because regional Victoria deserves major events that keep delivering.”
Minister for Tourism Natalie Suleyman added: “From the Penguin Parade to the pit lane, there’s never been a better time to visit Phillip Island.”
Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale said: "This is fantastic news for Phillip Island and the Bass Coast.
"Alongside our arts and cultural festivals, water based sporting events and incredible nature-based experiences, Supercars will further showcase everything our stunning region has to offer year-round.”
The full 2027 Repco Supercars Championship calendar will be revealed in due course.
The 2026 season resumes at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 on October 23-25. Tickets are on sale now. International fans can watch on SuperView.
