Resurgent Feeney claims record-breaking Perth pole

Broc Feeney has broken the Gen3 qualifying lap record at Motormall Wanneroo Raceway on his way to a fourth pole of the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship.

His first pole since Tasmania in May, Feeney broke the record in the second segment of Boost Mobile Qualifying with a 53.6455s, before setting an almost identical time in the Top Ten Shootout.

After winning the final race of Saturday's running, Feeney is primed to claw back further ground on Matt Payne in the battle for the Repco Sprint Cup, with the championship leader to start third.

Chaz Mostert, Will Brown, and Kai Allen will all start outside the top 10, Allen's qualifying coming to an abrupt end with a power steering failure.

Race 25 of the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship will commence at 3:20pm local time/5:20pm AEST.

Q1

There were contrasting fortunes immediately for Penrite Racing, Matt Payne returning to the top of the timesheets on a 54.3497s on the used tyre run, whilst Kai Allen's day had a rocky start.

Allen went out for an early final run, however smoke and fluid poured out the back of the #26 Ford, a power steering failure bringing the two-time race winner back into the lane.

There was a question mark surrounding the track condition after Allen's power steering failure, however Payne emphatically quashed those questions to set a 53.8325s, the fastest time of the weekend to that point.

Though Allen was sixth at the time of his failure, the rate of improvement across the field on green tyres saw the 2023 Super2 champion bundled down to 23rd, and out of Q1.

There were no such hiccups for Will Brown however, who was the other high-profile elimination, a last gasp flyer from Chaz Mostert bumping the 2024 champion down to 19th.

The elimination zone consisted of Brown, Jayden Ojeda, Jackson Walls, Declan Fraser, Allen, and Zach Bates.

Q2

Tyre strategy emerged as a theme early in Q2, with Payne, Brodie Kostecki, and Aaron Cameron all electing to sit out the opening run on the used tyre, Payne roading a set of new tyres in the opening stanza.

All 18 drivers remaining in qualifying rolled out with four minutes remaining, with Cameron Hill's marker of a 54.2129s standing as the team to beat from the opening run.

Chaz Mostert was unhappy with tyre pressures he felt were too high in the opening part of Q2, whilst Team 18 also adjusted tyre pressures for Anton De Pasquale.

Feeney moved the needle substantially, setting a new Gen3 qualifying record with a 53.6455s, whilst Payne and Kostecki were both within a tenth of a second.

Mostert was a high-profile omission from the Shootout in 12th, missing out by just 0.02s, whilst Andre Heimgartner missed out by just 0.0165s.

Jack Le Brocq, Hill, Macauley Jones, Ryan Gray, Cooper Murray, and Jobe Stewart also missed the Shootout.

Top Ten Shootout

The Shootout was kicked off by welcome returns to qualifying form for David Reynolds and Aaron Cameron, Reynolds setting a 54.2926s and Cameron a 54.1843s.

Ryan Wood then substantially moved the marker forward to a 53.8079s, which both James Golding and Thomas Randle weren't able to beat, a big lock up at the final corner hurting Randle's lap.

Anton De Pasquale was only 0.0497s away from bumping Wood out of first, but Cam Waters would do the job, putting a little over a tenth on the #2 Toyota with a 53.7027s.

Hometown hero Kostecki was next, looking to bounce back from a tough Saturday, but he could only go third on a 53.8346s, whilst Payne was much closer to the mark, but fell short by 0.0549s.

That left Feeney, who had already broken the Gen3 qualifying record, and would have to do so again to claim pole by a comfortable margin.

He was down to the first sector, however the Red Bull Ampol Ford hooked up across the final two sectors, a 53.6477s all but matching his record, and pipping Waters by 0.0550s.

Payne and Wood will share the second row, with Kostecki, De Pasquale, Golfing, Randle, Cameron, and Reynolds rounding out the top 10.
