Broc Feeney downplays notion of helping rival Ford teams
Feeney hunting championship redemption after 2025 heartbreak
2026 Finals campaign commenced with dominant home win
Broc Feeney has declared that he doesn't want any part of any Finals games in the remainder of the 2026 Supercars season, after an at times controversial Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.
Teammate and manufacturer games became a hot topic on Sunday, as Walkinshaw TWG Racing teammate Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood worked together to lift the latter inside the bubble.
Chevrolet also came under scrutiny when Cooper Murray and Jarrod Hughes pitted late, promoting GM Finals hopeful Anton De Pasquale back into the bubble, ahead of Wood. Any potential illegal orders were emphatically denied by GM Supercars chief Simon McNamara, with fuel numbers confirming both cars were short.
Supercars champions Mark Skaife and Mark Winterbottom have stated the likes of eliminated Finalists Wood and Kai Allen will have enormous roles to play as rear gunners, but Feeney isn't buying into those games yet.
When asked post-race if he would work with another Ford team, if it meant getting another Ford team through, Feeney replied: "Dunno, I'm not really worried about that, I'm just trying to win the race.
"The biggest thing is, you can't affect your own points, you don't wanna drop any positions or anything like that.
"When the teams are out of the Finals I'm sure they're happy to maybe help, but I'm not worried about that. I'm worried about winning races, and trying to get to the front and put myself in a good position."
Feeney dominated the last race of the weekend in Surfers Paradise, claiming an emotional first win at home on the Gold Coast despite a mid-race charge by Brodie Kostecki.
It seemed as though the Shell V-Power Racing Team wasn't out to do Feeney any favours, when Kostecki's teammate Rylan Gray emerged as a potential hurdle.
Feeney made his last stop on lap 57 to cover Kostecki, emerging with a 1.4 second lead. Feeney then came up to the back of Gray, who was yet to make his last stop, on lap 63.
However, instead of just pulling over, Gray covered at the end of the back straight into Turn 11, with Feeney forced to muscle his way past at Turn 12. Gray then dutifully sidestepped at Turn 13, allowing Kostecki to close to 0.6s off the back of Feeney, though that was as close as the #17 Ford would get.
"In knew in that first stint when I was driving away, it wasn't going to be that easy, I knew these boys were going to come at me strong," Feeney said in PIRTEK Victory Lane.
"Brodie was really fast in that second stint, his teammate tried blocking me in the last stint. Once I got through those, I was able to drive away a bit."
Feeney's teammate Will Brown had a similar battle with good mate Kostecki as he exited the pits on lap 23, though Kostecki would bomb his way past with relative ease at Turn 12, in a near identical move to Feeney's on Gray.
Red Bull Ampol Racing (Feeney and Brown), Dick Johnson Racing (Kostecki), Penrite Racing (Matt Payne), and Tickford Racing (Cam Waters) are the remaining Ford representatives in Finals, with Blanchard Racing Team the only Ford team not represented.
In his exclusive Supercars.com column, Lowndes declared that BRT should do a deal with one of the Ford teams to assist their cause: "You don’t need to be Nostradamus to forecast that the GM teams will help the GM car, and the Toyota teams will help the Toyota. The big problem Ford has is, who's going to help who?
"The only non-Finals Ford team remaining is the Blanchard Racing Team. If you're a good negotiator in BRT, you'd be out there trying to do a deal with at least one of the Ford teams to help them out."
BRT entered a technical alliance with Triple Eight at the start of the 2026 season.
