The upcoming NTI Townsville 500 puts Supercars' best back on the street circuit map.
However, who is the benchmark when it comes to racing on streets?
At first glance, Tickford Racing star Cam Waters is the best of the current crop, having won seven races on street circuits — Townsville (2021 and 2024), Newcastle (2023), Gold Coast (2023 and 2024) and Adelaide (2023).
So he has the most wins, sure — but is winless on street circuits since Gold Coast 2024.
Since then, Brodie Kostecki (Gold Coast, Townsville and Adelaide) has won three times, while Broc Feeney has won four times (Adelaide twice and Townsville twice).
Chaz Mostert swept the 2025 Gold Coast round, and topped the weekend point score in Adelaide last year en route to the title. He also has 11 podiums in Townsville — for no wins.
Matt Payne, David Reynolds and Will Brown are also multiple winners on street circuits. Payne is twice a winner in Adelaide, and also won at Reid Park in 2024. Brown delivered arguably the greatest street circuit performance ever, in Adelaide 2024.
So, who really is the best?
On current form, Darwin Triple Crown winner Waters may emerge as the one to beat, and while he fell short at labelling Darwin as a breakout weekend, was keen to get back to Reid Park.
“I’m not going to throw any big statements out there,” Waters said.
“I’ll keep working hard behind the scenes like I do, we’ve got to find more car speed, we got beaten today, which is more from a tyre deg point of view.
“We go to a track that I really like going to… I love Townsville. Any street track, that’s when I get excited.
“The car’s always been pretty fast there, I reckon we can make it better and we’ll get some trophies."
Who are the all-time street circuit greats?
Three or more wins across the Townsville, Gold Coast or Adelaide rounds would make Waters just the sixth driver to win 10 or more Supercars street circuit races.
Jamie Whincup is by far and away Supercars' street circuit GOAT, with a whopping 44 wins — 12 in Townsville, 11 in Adelaide, nine on the Gold Coast, six at Homebush, four at Hamilton (all are records) and two in Newcastle.
Up next is Shane van Gisbergen (28), followed by Garth Tander (16), Craig Lowndes (12) and Scott McLaughlin (10).
