Supercars issues tyre pressure clarification on eve of Ipswich
Teams can effectively self report without being referred to stewards
Track action at Queensland Raceway commences on Friday
Supercars has issued clarification to teams pertaining to minimum tyre pressure rules ahead of the Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440.
Kai Allen was investigated after the Perth finale after two tyres fell below the minimum pressure threshold.
On the eve of the Ipswich round, Supercars has noted a clarification in the Authorised Representatives Briefing Instructions.
Per the clarification, should a car fall foul of the minimum tyre pressure rules prior to the race start, teams can effectively self report the breach, take the penalty of changing the tyre, then start the race from pit lane to avoid referral to the stewards.
The non-compliant tyre will be removed and impounded by Supercars Technical for further investigation.
The clarification notes read: In the event that a Car which has a Control Tyre below the minimum permitted pressure (as recorded by the TPMS) prescribed in Rule D17.1.18 at any time prior to the start of the race returns to Pit Lane at the conclusion of the Formation Lap and has the non-compliant Control Tyre replaced by a complaint Control Tyre before starting the race from Pit Lane, the pre-race start non-compliance will not be referred to the Stewards by the GMM. However, the non-compliant Control Tyre removed from the Car will be impounded by the GMM.
Track action in Ipswich will commence on Friday.
