Camaros topped all three Friday practice sessions at The Bend
Jayden Ojeda, Anton De Pasquale led Chevrolet one-two on Friday
Camaro had minor pre-Bend 500 aero tweak
A pre-event parity tweak to the Chevrolet Camaro has drawn subdued responses from Friday's fast drivers.
Supercars confirmed this week that the Camaro would receive a minor aerodynamic tweak, effective from this weekend’s AirTouch 500 at The Bend.
Dick Johnson Racing star Brodie Kostecki refused to wade into the debate, instead claiming “obviously all the best drivers are in Fords” on Thursday.
Chevrolets topped all three sessions on Friday, PremiAir Racing driver Jayden Ojeda quickest in Practices 1 and 3. Friday’s leading Camaro drivers, Ojeda and Anton De Pasquale, both claimed they couldn’t feel the effects of the change.
“You’ll probably have to ask the A-grade driver amongst us, the B-graders can’t feel it,” joked Ojeda, who topped the first and third sessions of the day.
Ojeda continued: "Honestly, you'd have to be pretty incredible to feel the difference, especially circuit to circuit.
“I think the big difference will come in the racing. That's where I think our biggest deficit has been. Anton's shown you can qualify well and some circuits even race well.
"I think qualifying will probably be the tell when everyone puts every card on the table, and then the race will be where all the conversation starts, I think. Anything now is pointless.”
De Pasquale, who was second in Practice 3, said: “I don’t know, because the weakness for me at the moment is corner entry and especially on a race run, the more laps I do, the worse the entry is. And that’s a real problem for myself and Lee so far, and the other car as well.
“So I don’t know, and I would love some more, as a race driver would. It’s definitely not going to hurt, but is it much? It’s 70mm, I don’t think it does a lot."
In addition to the change, Supercars is planning to undertake centre of gravity (CoG) testing on nine cars following the Tailem Bend event.
Supercars return to the track on Saturday for two practice sessions, Boost Mobile Qualifying and Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout.
