Brodie Kostecki coy on latest Chevrolet parity change
Kostecki declares "the best drivers are in Fords"
Mustangs have won 23 of 28 races this season
Shell V-Power Racing Team star Brodie Kostecki had little to say on the latest parity change, instead claiming "all the best drivers" in Supercars "are in Fords."
Supercars confirmed this week that a minor aerodynamic adjustment will be made to the Chevrolet Camaro, effective from this weekend's AirTouch 500 at The Bend.
Parity has been a hot topic throughout the 2026 season, which to date, has been dominated by the Blue Oval. Heading to The Bend, Mustangs have won 23 of the 28 races, while six Ford drivers sit in the top seven overall.
Key to Ford's big jump in 2026 has been the arrival of former GM powerhouse Triple Eight, which assumed Ford homologation team duties. Penrite Racing, Dick Johnson Racing and Tickford Racing have also won multiple races.
The debate went to a new level back in April when Erebus Motorsport CEO Barry Ryan claimed the GM camp "haven't got any A-grade drivers" relative to rival Ford and Toyota teams.
Anton De Pasquale has been far and away GM's leading light in 2026, claiming both the marque's wins and five of GM's six podiums. The Toyota camp, meanwhile, boasts reigning champion Chaz Mostert, with rising star Ryan Wood helping the Supra to early season success, and Andre Heimgartner also a winner for Brad Jones Racing.
This week's news came as somewhat of a surprise, given Team 18 Team Principal Adrian Burgess declared the Camaro is on par with the Ford and Toyota as recently as Perth.
When asked if he had any thoughts on the latest tweak, Kostecki — who has won seven races this season — replied: "No, not really to be honest.
"We just focus on what we've gotta do when we get to the race track.
"Obviously all the best drivers are in Fords. You know, most of my competition lately has been all the Fords, but who knows? We'll see what happens."
Kostecki enters the weekend a raging favourite for the Ryco Enduro Cup alongside Todd Hazelwood.
The Kostecki/Hazelwood pairing return to Tailem Bend as defending winners of the race, and also combined to dominate the 2024 Bathurst 1000.
While this weekend's AirTouch 500 at The Bend is billed as a curtain-raiser for Bathurst, Kostecki is adamant it is a huge race to win.
"You know, people call it a warm up, but for us it’s still a big race for us. We did really well here last year and obviously won and went into Bathurst," Kostecki said.
"We had a slight failure [at Bathurst] which was a bit disappointing, but we go to every race trying to win them all.
"So, we'll just focus on the few days that we've got ahead and hopefully we can come out on top on Sunday."
Track action at The Bend commences on Friday.
