PremiAir swings car number change for Cooper Murray
Declan Fraser's #777 makes way for Murray's preferred #36
Murray shifts from Erebus Motorsport, signed through 2028
PremiAir Racing has swung a car number change for new signing Cooper Murray.
Murray takes to the grid at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 in PremiAir Racing colours for the first time, having a struck a deal with the team.
The Victorian will do so with the #36 on the window, a number that means a great deal to the rising star.
The #36 first belonged to Murray's father, who used it in go-karts and cars. Murray then used it himself through his junior career, winning races with the #36 in Super2 with Eggleston Motorsport.
It was last used full-time in 2014 by Michael Caruso with Kelly Racing/Nissan Motorsport.
"The decision to allow Cooper to bring that number with him to PremiAir Racing is no accident," the team said.
"Since taking ownership of the team, Peter Xiberras has always believed in giving his drivers the freedom to choose their own race numbers.
"For Peter, it is about more than logistics; it is about giving a driver an immediate sense of ownership and connection with their car from day one. He believes a number a driver chooses means something. It becomes theirs.
"For Cooper Murray, #36 has always been his. Now it will be his in Supercars, too.
"Now, as he prepares to line up on a Supercars grid carrying #36 for the first time in a full campaign, he doesn't miss the moment's significance.
"A number that began on a go-kart. That grew through the junior categories. Now heading to the Supercars Championship.
"Some numbers just mean something. For Cooper Murray, 36 is one of them."
Murray replaced Declan Fraser at PremiAir, and has signed on for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.
