Chevrolet finding form apporoaching business end of 2026
Jack Le Brocq leaped into Finals bubble after strong Townsville
Rookie Jayden Ojeda also closing on Finals bubble
Anton De Pasquale has been the shining light for Chevrolet throughout the 2026 season, and for the last few months has looked as though he will be carrying the General Motors flag alone in Finals.
But, for the first time since May, he has a Chevy ally in the top 10. By the time the Finals field is set in October, Chevrolet's Finals fleet could feasibly swell to three.
After dropping out of the top 10 in points in Tasmania, Jack Le Brocq has put Matt Stone Racing back into the Finals picture, with strong race pace coming to the fore in the 200km refuelling races.
The two-time race winner gained 11 positions, more than any other driver, on Saturday, before backing it up with a six place gain on Sunday, finishing ninth on both occasions.
A disastrous weekend for James Golding, who was wiped out in opening lap clashes on Saturday and Sunday, has seen the #4 Camaro jump back into the Finals bubble with four rounds remaining until the 10 is set.
"It's good, it's awesome. Obviously the goal we want is to be in the top 10 come the Finals, you've got to be in that stage to have a shot at anything," said Le Brocq on Supercars' Equip Super Cool Down Lap.
"It's great to be P10 again, but still a bit of work to do. We've still got a fast race car, and most of the year we've had pretty decent race pace.
"Just need to sort out qualifying consistency, we're still struggling. A bit of homework to do to try and sort that out."
Just 11 points separate Le Brocq and Golding in 10th and 11th, with a huge haul of points still up for grabs, especially in the Ryco Enduro Cup races at The Bend and Bathurst.
The big points on offer could be a tantalising prospect for PremiAir Racing rookie Jayden Ojeda, who enjoyed a weekend of gains for a third-straight event.
Now 12th in the championship, Ojeda finds himself 137 points back, having been as far as 202 points off the pace jus three rounds ago in Christchurch.
The confident Sydneysider is all too aware that he is now factoring into the equation, saying the following when asked if he feels as though he's closing on the Equip Super Cool Down Lap: "Yeah, by the numbers I am.
"Obviously chasing that spot in the 10 and just chipping away. Solid weekend, good points, and good progress."
The Ryco Enduro Cup could be Ojeda' big chance, with standout co-driver David Russell being maintained by PremiAir for a third season, and his first with Ojeda.
Russell's recent Bathurst record is extraordinary, finishing third, fourth, second, sixth, and third in his last five Bathurst starts. Ojeda, meanwhile, starred with Walkinshaw and Ryan Wood last year.
Le Brocq will pair with Cameron Crick, who was a late withdrawal from a Townsville wildcard with illness. The final two Repco Sprint Cup rounds precede the enduros at Perth (July 31-August 2) and Ipswich (August 21-23).
