Cam Waters labels Oscar Piastri a "natural" after Aussie's Supercar laps
Formula 1 star Piastri lapped ex-Waters Ford at Calder Park last week
Daniel Ricciardo also drove Broc Feeney's Ford before Grand Prix
Cam Waters has labelled Formula 1 star Oscar Piastri a "natural" after the McLaren driver's maiden laps in a Ford Mustang Gen3 Supercar.
Piastri, a nine-time Grand Prix winner, got behind the wheel of an ex-Waters Ford at Calder Park last week as part of a crossover event orchestrated by Monster Energy.
Aboard the Ford raced by Waters in 2024 and 2025, Piastri wrung the neck of the Aussie V8 around the historic Victorian circuit in the lead-up to the Australian Grand Prix.
Piastri teased the drive on social media in the lead-up to last weekend's event, with Waters also on site.
Further onboard vision and stills revealed on Thursday have shown just how hard Piastri was pushing the car, with Waters chasing behind in another former Monster Energy Mustang.
In a far cry to his McLaren F1 car, where he stays away from kerbs and powers through fast Grand Prix circuit corners, Piastri can be seen ragging the Mustang across Calder's big kerbs.
Aside from a missed gear early in his drive, Piastri took to the Supercar like a duck to water — something that impressed 18-time Supercars race winner Waters.
"It was cool, it was his first time he's driven a tin top race car," Waters told media in Melbourne.
"For me, I was a bit blown away that he even said that, but we got in, had a lot of fun.
"I was pretty happy he looked after my race car, because I need that this weekend, but he got in and he's a natural obviously, and was right up to speed straight away."

Drift stars Steve 'Baggsy' Biagioni and Kyle Douglas also took part in the special crossover, which preceded a similar event featuring Red Bull Ampol Racing star Broc Feeney and ex-F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo.
While Piastri was luckless on the weekend, crashing out before Sunday's Grand Prix, Waters kept his nose clean amid poor qualifying speed to finish the weekend second overall, and move to second in the championship.
"Coming into the weekend, I knew we were going to be a lot better than what we were here last year," Waters said post-race on Sunday.
"I knew we would've been top 10 pace-wise. but we had a few question marks on a few items, and wanted to tick them off the list, and understand our package a bit more.
"We'll keep chipping away at it, we'll work on qualifying and start closer at the front, and hopefully in a round or two, we'll know what to do, and we'll have some fast cars and go win some races."
Waters will resume his 2026 Supercars campaign at the inaugural ITM NZ Double Header from April 10-12. Tickets are on sale now, while international viewers can watch on SuperView.
