Cam Waters disqualified from Gold Coast 500 Shootout
Right rear tyre on Waters Ford dropped below minimum psi
Waters to start 10th, sits 53 points ahead of the cut-line
Cam Waters has been disqualified from Sunday’s Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout over a tyre breach.
It emerged after Sunday’s Top Ten Shootout that the right rear tyre on Waters' #6 Monster Energy Ford had been recorded at below 16 psi.
The tyre was recorded at 15.741 psi, which was in breach of Rule D17.1.18. Per the rule, a control tyre must maintain a minimum pressure of 16 psi at any time the car is on the circuit during any session.
Minimum tyre pressure rules came into the spotlight after Perth, when Kai Allen avoided disqualification regarding the same rule. Supercars later issued a clarification over the rule.
Waters ended up eighth in the Shootout, which was won by Ford rival Broc Feeney. The final results show Waters in 10th behind former teammate and Saturday winner Chaz Mostert, and Cameron Hill.
It leaves Waters in a perilous position when it comes to Finals, with the Tickford Racing driver sitting in seventh, 53 points ahead of the cut-line.
Waters, a two-time winner on the Gold Coast streets, needs a win to guarantee his Semi Final spot, regardless of where his rivals finish on Sunday.
Race 32 will commence at 2:45pm local time/3:45pm AEDT. Fox Sports, Kayo Sports, the Seven Network, and Sky NZ take live coverage. International fans can watch on SuperView.
