Broc Feeney suffered first DNF since Gold Coast 2022
Feeney crashed out of Melbourne SuperSprint finale last week
Jamie Whincup finished record 136 races between 2013 and 2018
Broc Feeney's shock crash in the Melbourne SuperSprint finale revealed teammate Will Brown as Supercars' new 'iron man' heading to New Zealand, and kept Jamie Whincup's record alive.
The major headline coming out of Melbourne was the crash that took the Feeney, Cooper Murray and Zach Bates cars out of contention, and into hurried repairs before the trip to New Zealand.
Remarkably, it was Feeney's first 'Did Not Finish' since he was involved in the 2022 Gold Coast chicane pile-up, ending a streak of 93 races finished. He also lost the championship lead for the third time this season.
Feeney was disqualified from the 2023 Newcastle opener, but had seen the chequered flag in every race since the opening race of the 2022 Adelaide 500.
Regardless, it ensures Jamie Whincup's all-time record of 136 consecutive finishes will remain intact, unless Brown continues to keep his 100% finish record with Triple Eight alive.
After crashing out of the 2023 Adelaide opener, ironically with the driver he would replace in Shane van Gisbergen, Brown has finished 66 consecutive races, 65 of them with Triple Eight. He finished all 24 races in 2024, 34 in 2025, and seven so far in 2026.
Brown needs another 71 straight finishes to displace Whincup's record. Should Brown finish the remaining 30 races in 2026, he would still be 40 shy of Whincup's number.
Whincup finished 136 consecutive races between Gold Coast 2013 and Adelaide 2018. In that stretch, he won the 2013, 2014 and 2017 championships.
Feeney isn't the only driver to have seen a finish streak go up in smoke this season. Andre Heimgartner's streak ended at 63 races in Sydney, when he suffered a dramatic engine failure. It was the Brad Jones Racing driver's first DNF since Bathurst 2023, which coincidentally, was also due to an engine failure.
A clash with James Golding in the penultimate Melbourne race also ended Matt Payne's streak of 43 straight finishes. Payne's last DNF came in the 2024 Bathurst 1000, when he crashed out late in the race.
Brown (66 finishes), Cam Waters (60) and Anton De Pasquale (43) are the only remaining drivers who have finished every race since the start of 2025.
Drivers will race for the Jason Richards Trophy across the Taupō and Christchurch events in the inaugural ITM NZ Double Header from April 10-12.
